Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

The City of Richmond is committed to fostering Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in both the recruitment process and throughout our dynamic workforce. We actively encourage and welcome applications from all qualified individuals of diverse backgrounds and identities, recognizing the immense value they bring to our workplace and community.

To support our commitment to DEI in the workplace, we prioritize the continuous development of our employees through training and awareness initiatives, encouraging growth and on-going learning. Our commitment to DEI extends to regularly reviewing and refining our policies and practices, ensuring the sustenance of a Respectful Workplace.

Proudly holding the title of having the highest proportion of immigrants among all Canadian cities, the City of Richmond aspires to authentically mirror this rich cultural diversity in our workforce. Within our organization, we have many dedicated professionals in DEI-related roles, actively working on elevating and advancing diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility for our community and throughout the organization.

Our commitment to DEI is demonstrated through:

  • Strengthening our recruitment process in alignment with our values and DEI goals.
  • Promoting a sense of belonging, ensuring everyone feels valued and heard.
  • Providing learning and career development opportunities for all employees.
  • Building relationships with each other and with different community groups.
  • Implementing policies and practices that promote inclusivity and respect for all.
  • Engaging in meaningful community outreach activities and social responsibility initiatives.

The City of Richmond is an equal opportunity employer. We encourage all qualified individuals to apply, however, our positions are restricted to those legally entitled to work in Canada.

The City of Richmond is an equal opportunity employer who believes in a diverse and inclusive workplace that reflects our community. As such, the City offers a program that specifically hires individuals with disabilities.

The process of applying and competing for employment is often a barrier for individuals with disabilities. Because of this, the City’s Human Resources (HR) department has modified its recruiting and hiring practices. Through HR, the City partners with local community organizations with specialized employment services to hire and place individuals with disabilities into roles throughout the organization (placement opportunities are based on availability and resources).

The goal is to find meaningful work for individuals and customize their employment around both the individual’s strengths and capabilities with the operational needs of a work area. Some processes and duties are modified for the individual. The result is an inclusive and supportive work environment. If you have any questions or would like to participate in this program, please contact the City of Richmond Human Resources department at hr@richmond.ca.

As of 2024, the City of Richmond is required to post a Pay Transparency Report annually. Employee participation in this initiative is optional, which may affect the accuracy of the findings.
